Well, we now have slates of candidates for mayor and city council and they need our help. Last April we noted that “Politics Is Always Local,” and we listed some big issues we thought the new mayor and city council ought to be addressing during their stump speeches (we don’t want to buy pigs in pokes here). Let’s revisit that now that we know who is running, now that we’ve learned so much more about the mess we’re in and now that our gracious host (Norm!) has safely dodged another bullet by choosing to run the guillotine rather than stick his neck under the blade.
So, we’ll review the previous list, condense (this time) to some short questions and maybe even come up with some recommended “sound bites” we might like to hear from the candidates … at the next Politics and a Pint.
Legal details (in appropriately tiny font):
What: Politics and a Pint
Where: The Contented Cow
When: 6-7:30PM, 20 July 2008
Disclosure:
The moderator of P&aP, Bruce W. Morlan, is campaign manager for one of the candidates for Mayor. We’ll discuss the implications of this for P&aP (probably none), and I suspect I can keep the two roles seperate. I will certainly step down as moderator if we host candidates unless a consensus agrees I can remain neutral.
Previous P&aP conversations pertinent to this topic:
- Drugs?
- Skate parks?
- City Charter?
- Annexations?
- The Issues List (old version)?

Hi Bruce,
Correction – we’ll be around on the 14th and away the 21st. I hope things could stretch to include an audio recording!

Bruce, when I first started considering the question of whether or not you would be a good neutral moderator for P&aP, I thought yes, yes, he would. Who would be more neutral than a man who would not want to be called out for being one sided?
After more deliberation, I came out with the same answer.
